A rare early 19th century bastidor (cage doll) with inset glass eyes and a cloth wrapped cage base. The small hinged flap on the back-side of the skirt is an "escondite," or "hiding place" for relics and other valuables. The figure is masterfully carved with a faithful, life-like "encarnacion" polychrome painted surface.
Dimensions: 24 inches (not including the silver resplendor).
Santos available from Colonial Arts.
